Dr Kristien Steenken
After completing my BSc Physiology degree and medical degree at King’s College London in 2012, I moved to Scotland for my foundation training and specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology. I soon realised that I found this speciality too surgical and enjoyed caring for “awake” patients much more than being in theatre, so decided to work in emergency medicine for a few years, including in Australia, before returning home to train in general practice. I have enjoyed every minute of my GP career to date, and since qualifying in 2020 I have worked as a locum GP and private GP across four counties before settling in Warwickshire with my family. I now enjoy working in a GP surgery in Stratford-Upon-Avon alongside my work in private general practice.
Aside from my work as a doctor, I enjoy adventures with my husband, young son and two labradors as well as time with friends and loved ones, running, being creative through oil painting on canvas, and long walks in nature. Originally being Dutch, I had an expat upbringing and feel very privileged to have lived in nine different countries around the world and amongst many different cultures. I feel this has enhanced my ability to understand and connect with patients from many different backgrounds.
